The overall approach:
Motivation’s approach to building the capacity of people with mobility disabilities and its partner organisations takes into account the context in which people with mobility disabilities and our partner organisations operate.
We are cognizant of, and responsive to the fact that there are different levels (e.g. individual, organisational, societal) at which we can undertake capacity development and that there are relationships between these levels.
For example, a partner organisation’s performance may be shaped as much by the institutional framework (laws, regulations, policies, societal attitudes, societal values etc.) within which it operates as by factors internal to the organisation (skills, systems, leadership etc.)
This perspective represents, arguably, the best way for Motivation to approach capacity development, i.e. a systematic recognition of the importance of thinking about individuals, organisations, policies etc. as part of a broader whole rather than as discrete, or loosely connected concerns.
Capacity for us is the:
Products, services, skills, resources, systems, attitudes, leadership, policies etc. that enable individuals, groups, organisations and countries to perform functions and identify and solve problems that people with disabilities face.
The elements in this definition constitute what Motivation develops, strengthens, helps more effectively utilize or otherwise addresses in a capacity development intervention.
