Spinal Injuries Association - Ragama

The Spinal Injuries Association was formed in 1999 by a group of patients and ex-patients of the Ragama Rehabilitation Hospital. All office bearers are wheelchair users and therefore understand the difficulties and realities of continuing with life following a spinal cord injury. In addition there is a strong workforce of 29, 45% of which are wheelchair users as well.

The main activities of SIA include; production and distribution of wheelchairs, Outreach Programmes, Peer Group Training (Active rehab camps and advanced wheelchair skills), Counselling, Sports and Recreation, Career Guidance and Advocacy.

In addition to the above, SIA also provides Special Seating and wheeled mobility products for children with Cerebral Palsy and other physical disabilities, thus helping them to be more independent, more involved in everyday activities, as well as more sociable, communicative and healthy.
