Jaffna Jaipur Centre for Disability  Rehabilitation - Jaffna

The Jaffna branch of The Colombo Friend-in Need society’s (CFINS) Jaipur foot program was launched in Jaffna in July 1987 by the collaborative efforts of the Jaffna Mother’s Front, NORAD and CFINS. To fully avail the opportunities at hand and focus on building a comprehensive service centre, full autonomy in making policy decisions was essential. Therefore, the Jaffna Jaipur Centre for Disability Rehabilitation (JJCDR) emerged in November 2002 with full autonomous powers to build up on the existing infrastructure.

The immediate need was to provide artificial limbs to civilians, who lost their limbs during the ethnic conflict. In the ensuing years, the program was the sole provider of Prosthetic and Orthotic care in the peninsular and focused its attention towards totally rehabilitating their clients and embarked on social, psychological and economic rehabilitation activities. The peace process opened new avenues for further development, such as an active outreach program and health camps.
